IAS 38 — Data Asset Recognition — One-Page Map

Your data asset carries zero on the balance sheet.

Oxford DataPlan's proprietary receipt panel, advertising panel, and flight/cruise datasets are the asset your Series A underwrote. Under IAS 38, they carry zero. The entire value sits in the going concern — until the next round prices the company.

What your data asset is worth on a balance sheet

Framing

Under IAS 38, internally generated intangibles are expensed as incurred. The data asset — the receipt panel, the advertising panel, the flight and cruise datasets — carries zero. The entire value sits in the going concern. That's fine until the next round prices the company.

Total data asset on balance sheet: £0 (or the residual cost of any outright-purchased exclusive feeds, which is negligible relative to the asset's revenue-generating capacity).

The next round needs a number

The Companies House filings (Jul–Sep 2026) — new director, share class restructuring, variation of rights, fresh articles — indicate a new financing event is in preparation.

The key insight: when a Series B investor (or an acquirer) prices the company, the data asset's standalone value must be separated from the going concern. Right now, there is no formal valuation of that standalone value. The receipt panel, the advertising panel, the flight and cruise datasets — the assets that make Oxford DataPlan defensible ("pod shops cannot buy our upstream sources directly") — have no number attached to them. That number is what the next round needs.

One page. Zero friction.

Maps every data source to its IAS 38 treatment. Confirms what carries and what doesn't. Identifies the one narrow window where a source could be capitalised (an outright purchase of an exclusive feed) and why it almost certainly isn't.

No call. No NDA. No follow-up.
